We shall contact you for payment and shall soon have our automated online entry system in place, where you will be able to enter and pay online directly.


Walkers briefing

Assemble - Melville Street & Walker Street junction
We Request all walkers to assemble at the junction of Melville Street & Walker Street. On arrival walkers will be split up into two groups 15 mile walkers ( Blue numbers ) 7 mile walkers ( Red numbers)

Late Entrants
There will be a late entry check-in desks situated on Castle Terrace and Walker Street start area for anyone who wishes to Crowd of walkersenter the walk on the day. Open from 8am - 9.15am.It would be better if you have any friends or relations who wish to walk to enter sooner via the normal channels.

Fancy Dress
Why not add a bit of fun to your walk and come along dressed in fancy dress, Santa Clause is very welcome to walk.

The Start
The official start will be at the junction of  Melville Street and Walker Street. The Lord Provost of Edinburgh has kindly agreed to start the walk.The start time will be 9.30am for the 15 mile walkers & 9.35 for 7 mile walkers.

 15 Mile Walk
The fifteen mile route will be as follows- Start, Drumshaugh Gardens, Dean Bridge, Queensferry Road, Dean Path, Ravelston Terrace, Ravelston Dykes, The Mary Erskin School, Ravelston Dykes Road, Craigleith Road, Queensferry Road, Maybury Road, Craigs Road, Turnhouse Road, Lenny Muir, Cammo Road, Cammo Gardens , Maybury Road, Queensferry Road, Dean Bridge, Queensferry Street, Lothian Road, Castle Terrace - FINISH.

7 Mile Walk
The seven mile walkers will start approximately five minutes after the Road Signsfifteen mile walkers and will take the same route out as far as the junction of Craigleith Road/Queensferry Road opposite Quality Street Davidson’s Mains junction.The walkers will then return following the same route back as the fifteen mile walkers describe above.

The Finish - Castle Terrace
At the end of your walk in Castle Terrace follow the signs and instructions to the finish area. On finishing you will receive your Medal, Completion Certificate and your Christmas Goody-Bag.

Refreshments
There will be plenty of hot /cold drinks, Well Hung & Tender Burgers, Stoats Porridge, etc will be on sale before and after the walk on Castle Terrace. If you are doing the fifteen mile walk it would be advisable to carry a small snack with you.

Girls on the walk

Water & First Aid
First Aid cover will be provided during and after the walk. There will be three First Aid & Water Stations en route. 1. Mary Erskin School  2.   Turnhouse Road /Lenny Muir  3. Queensferry Road , Strachen Road Junction. A fully equipped First Aid  Post will also be available on Castle Terrace.

Dogs on the Walk
We do allow dogs to take part in the walk but they MUST be kept on leads at all times .Could all owners collect their free pooper bags from the Dogs Trust Charity stall positioned at the start area. There will also be water bowls available at all the First Aid/Water stations .

Rules
1)  Remember this is a walk so enjoy.

2)  All walkers MUST comply with any police or marshal’s instructions at all times, especially at certain road junctions where you may be halted for vehicular traffic.

3)  Although this is a charity walk ,you are not to disregards your own safety and that of road or pavement users especially at road junctions. Please be aware of other pedestrians traffic and act in a considerate and courteous manner.

4)  Participants must not walk more than six abreast.

5)  Your walk number must be displayed on front upper body and be clearly visible to the route marshal’s.

6)  Please ensure that water bottles and litter etc is thoughtfully  disposed  of in the bins & receptacles provided.

Car Parking
If  possible try and use public transport otherwise car parking is available in the NCP car park at Castle Terrace with the entrance on King Stables Road ( see map). All walkers are requested to make their own independent way to the start area .
